He was originally named Edward Leonard Riddle, but by adulthood he was mostly going by Leonard Edward Riddle.

His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Lennard Edward Riddle, age 44, residence Church of Bigger, Marceline, Linn Co., Mo, occupation teamster, own business, nearest relative, Carry Susan Riddle, same address.

His death certificate records Leonard Edward Riddle, age 71 years 9 months 2 days, born 29 March 1874 in Browning, Mo, died 1 Jan 1946 in Marceline, Linn Co., Missouri, married, husband of Carrie Susan Hoover, father Henry Lewis Riddle, mother’s maiden name Mary Myra Clark, cause of death coronary thrombosis due to hypertensive arteriosclerosis, informant Everett Riddle, Marceline, Mo, burial in Mt. Olivet.

Her death certificate records Carrie Susan Riddle, age 77 years 4 months 29 days, born 3 Feb 1877 in Kentucky, died 2 July 1956 in Bucklin, Linn Co., Missouri, parents not known, widow of Lenord Riddle, cause of death mycardial infarction, informant Mrs. Harold Coyler, Bucklin, Mo, burial in Mt. Olivet.

The census, however, lists her as age 1 in June 1880, and as age 22, b. Feb 1878, in 1900. The death certificate is also the only record I’ve seen which records her birthplace as Kentucky. The censuses all say either Missouri or California.

Their marriage license records the marriage on 12 Apr 1894 in Browning, Sullivan Co., Missouri of Leonard E. Riddle, age 20, to Carrie S. Hoover, age 15, at the bride’s home by B. Langdon, J.P., consent from father (not named.)

1900 census of Benton township, Linn Co., Missouri, enumerated 20 July, lists on p. 17B as family #342/367:
Riddle, Leonard E., farmer; 25, b. March 1875; Carrie S., wife, 22, b. Feb 1878, married 7 years, mother of 3 children, 2 living; Franklin E., son, 3, b. June 1896; Noel E., son, b. Oct 1898. Leonard born Mo Ky Ky, all others born Mo Mo Mo.

The preceding household is Leonard’s widowed father and his younger siblings.

The daughter Alene here is apparently the same child as the son Alva in the 1910 census.
