Gary had Down’s Syndrome. His death certificate records Jerry Ray Dehart, age 1 year 2 days, born 12 Feb 1948 in Elliott Co., died 14 Feb 1949 in Elliott Co., Ky, father Melvin Dehart, mother’s maiden name Hazel Binion, cause of death pneumonia, informant Melvin Dehart, burial in home cemetery.
The spelling on the death certificate is apparently wrong, since all the obituaries I’ve seen for Melvin and Hazel’s other children list a predeceased brother Gary Dehart.
