Her obituary reported: “Gladys "Jewel" Walker, 80, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor East in Wabash.

She was born November 30, 1929 in Morehead, Kentucky, to Melvin and Hazel (Bennion) Dehart. Jewel married Melvin Walker in Akron, Indiana, on May 1, 1953. She was a homemaker and also worked at Wabash Magnetics. She was a member of and very active in the First Church of God in Wabash. Jewel enjoyed gardening and canning green beans, and especially loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Walker of Wabash; two daughters, Linda (James) DeLong of Wabash, and Pamela (Walt) Milker of Dunedin, Florida; two grandsons, Aaron (Amy) DeLong of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Chad DeLong of Wabash; two great-grandchildren, Brady DeLong and Bethany DeLong, both of Indianapolis; four sisters, Essie Orpurt of Wabash, Mary (Bill) Music of Defurniak Springs, Florida, Gaye (Tony) Yohman of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Monie Collins of West Liberty, Kentucky; and two brothers, Ernie Dehart and Paul Dehart, both of Wabash. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Dehart, William Dehart, and Thomas Dehart and her sisters, Marie James, and Fern Flanery.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robb Rensberger officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.”
