Be careful not to confuse him with William B. Staton, 4 Apr 1825 - 6 Dec 1903, son of William R. Staton and Nancy Sexton, who also had a wife named Sarah/Sally (nee Frazier), a daughter named Sarah, and a son who went by Lafe.

1870 census of Bath Co., Ky, Mudlick precinct, Olympian Springs P.O., enumerated 10 Aug, lists on p. 17 as family #115/117:
Staten, William, 42, farm hand; Sarah, 44; Allice, 17; Thomas, 15; Sarah, 12; Clercia, 8; Lafayette, 6; Jesse, 3. McClain, John, 77, wheel wright. All born in Kentucky.

Alice is probably the same daughter listed as Susan in 1860, although it is possible that Alice was accidentally skipped in 1860 and that Susan was already married by 1870.
