The Kentucky death index lists Lafe Staton, age 93, died 16 Jan 1959 in Menifee Co., residence same.

1940 census of Menifee Co., Ky, ED 83-2 (outside Frenchburg), enumerated 27 April, lists on pp. 11A-11B as family #174:
Staton, Laef, 74, b. Ky, living in Salt Lick, Bath Co., Ky in 1935, occupation blank; Mary B., wife, 32, b. Ky, living in rural Bath Co., Ky in 1935.
Mary’s is one of the lines with supplemental questions. It says that both her parents were born in Kentucky, that she has been married more than once, that her age at first marriage was 16, that she has given live birth to three children, and that she does not have a Social Security number.
Since Lafe and Mary do not have the same reported residence in 1935, I assume they married sometime after that.
