Notes for William J. Stamper
William probably died between 1906, when Stella was born, and 1910, when Rinda was listed as a widow. I cannot find a burial record.
The 1870 and 1880 censuses list a William G. Stamper in Carter Co., son of Washington and Margaret Stamper, who was recorded as 1 in 1870 and 11 in 1880, and a William T. Stamper in Morgan Co., son of Benjamin and Lodema Ellen Stamper, who was recorded as 2 in 1870 and 12 in 1880. (Both of them were listed without initials in 1870, and with the indicated initials in 1880.) There are no matches in Elliott, Rowan or Bath counties, not even with the initials reversed, such as a James W. or John W. - I searched on all male Stampers born 1867 to 1871.
The William G. Stamper son of Washington Stamper of Carter Co. seems like the best fit, but since there is another contender and the initial does not match I am not linking him in.
