1900 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Devil’s Fork precinct, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 8A as family #134:
Sublett, John, 20, b. Jan 1880, farmer; Lou, wife, 22, b. Mar 1978, 22, married 0 years, mother of 1 child, 1 living; Click, James M., nephew, 2, b. Nov 1898. All born Ky Ky Ky.
The preceding household is John’s widowed mother.
James M. Click is the son of John’s sister Mary “Mollie” Sublett and her first husband. She is listed in the 1900 census as a widowed sister-in-law with the family of their sister Martha and husband William Stamper, and as the mother of 1 living child. In 1910 James is back with his mother and her second husband Meridith Waddell.
It is curious that Lou is described here as the mother of 1 living child, but there is no child listed as a child or stepchild. It is possible, considering the data from 1910 (see below), that the number of children line is wrong for Lou. The enumerator may have seen a child in the house, entered 1 in those columns, and then not corrected it when James was reported as being a nephew.
