Notes for Grover Cleveland McClurg
There was another Grover Cleveland McClurg in Rowan Co. just one year older, born 12 July 1884, son of Absalom McClurg and Martha Jane Pettit, so be careful not to get them confused.
His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918 in West Liberty, Ky, states Grover Cleveland McClurg, age 33, born 10 Mar 1885, residence Blaze, Morgan Co., Ky, farmer, nearest relative Mollie McClurg, medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark hair, physical disqualification due to being consumptive invalid.
I cannot find him in the Kentucky death records. Pauline Chalfin’s online family tree has his year of death as 1918, which may be from his gravestone. If so, he must have died shortly after registering for the draft, presumably from the tuberculosis reported on his draft registration.
Notes for Nora Thomas Horner
Daughter of John W. Horner and Martha Ellen Hill of Fleming Co., Ky.
Notes for Grover Cleveland & Nora Thomas (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage book 5, p. 45, records the marriage of Grover C. McClurg, age 19, farmer, residence Triplett, born in and father born in Rowan Co., to Nora T. Horner, age 14, born in Fleming Co., on 27 Mar 1904 at Marin McClurg’s by H. T. Adams, witnesses J. D. Plank and Willie McCormick.
Grover and Nora apparently divorced sometime in early 1907, since he remarried in May 1907, but their daughter Virgie was born in Aug 1907. In the 1910 census, both of their daughters are living with Grover’s father, recorded as his granddaughters, and Grover is recorded with his third wife Mollie Pettit. I have not found Nora.
