Notes for John Ellick McClurg
His WW I draft registration card, filed 5 June 1917, records John Ellick McClurg, age 28, residence Farmers, Ky, born 28 Dec 1889 in Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farmer, employer S. M. Bradley, married supporting a wife and 4 children, exemption claimed due to lost 2 fingers.
The reported birthdate is probably incorrect; he was listed as age 16 born April 1884 in the 1900 census (but that census is wildly inaccurate3 for the entire family - it is off by about 12 years for his father!), as age 22 in the 1910 census and age 32 in the 1920 census, and his gravestone has the dates 1887 - 1969.
Be careful not to confuse him with John Wallace McClurg (born 10 days later, on 8 Jan 1888), who married first Bertha Adkins, and second Lona Ward.

Her death certificate records Linna McClurg, age 39 years 2 months 20 days, born 13 Nov 1889 in Rowan Co., died 4 Mar 1929 in Farmers, Rowan Co., Ky, married, father Jim Cook, mother’s maiden name Marthline Padget, both born in Ky, cause of death influenza, informant Andy Ramey, burial in Slaty Point.
Note that the reported birthdate and age at death are inconsistent - the reported age at death would imply a birthdate of 15 Dec 1889, and the reported birthdate would imply an age at death of 39 years 3 months 19 days.

I cannot find anyone in this family in the 1930 census.
