The 2005 obituary of her son Garrett Clifton refered to him as the son of “the late Ada Planck and Garret Bates Sr.” The obituary of her son Bobby, who died the same year, reported his parents as “the late Garrett and Ada Pettit Bates.” This presumably indicates that some time between 1982 and 2005 she married a third time to a Planck. I can’t find a death record for her under that name, though.

Fleming Co., Ky marriage books record the marriage on 7 Oct 1978 of Hiram Eldridge, age 86, born 17 Feb 1892 in Letcher Co., Ky, son of Levi Eldridge and Martha Day, to Ada Lou Bates, age 80, born 16 May 1898 in Rowan Co., Ky, daughter of James Pettit and Elizabeth Hardin, both widowed, both residents of Flemingsburg, Ky, at Flemingsburg by Rev. Norman H. Watson, minister of the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church, witnesses Mrs. Gertrude Blake and Beverly Ann Masters.

The reported age and birthdate for Ada are off by two years; she was recorded as age 1 month in the 1900 census.
