Listed as 21 in 1850 and 29 in 1860.

This is probably the Eliza McDaniel who was with Isaac Hall Jr. when he was shot, and who testified at the hearings. She is the only Eliza in the right age range in the 1850 or 1860 censuses of Rowan, Morgan and Fleming counties. See my article, “The Isaac Hall Murder”, for a transcription of her testimony.

Her death certificate states Mrs. Eliza Hall, age 75 years 10 mos 3 days, married, died 18 May 1921 in Rowan Co, born 15 July 1845 in Kentucky, father George McDaniel, mother Liziebeth Roise, cause of death diabetis, informant Pressley Hall, Haldeman, Ky, burial in Nickell Cemetery.

The census records suggest a birthdate in 1847 or 1848 instead.

1870 census of Fleming Co., Ky, Mt. Carmell precinct, enumerated 21 June, lists on p. 26 as family #161:
Pelfrey, Richard, 42, farmer; Eliza, 34; John, 15; Beverly, 13; Sarah, 4; Geo W, 1/12, b. May; Rice, Fleming, 21; Martha, 18. All born in Kentucky.

Fleming “Rice” is really Fleming Royse, the son of Benjamin Royse and Elizabeth Lee. The Martha “Rice” here is his wife, the daughter of Richard Pelfrey and his first wife Nancy McClain.

1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, enumerated 3 June, lists on p. 5 as family #32:
Pelphrey, Richard, 51, farmer; Eliza, 33, wife; Sarah A., 14, dau; George W., 10, son; Catherine, 7, dau; Wm. J., 4, son; Anna, 9/12, b. Aug, dau.
