The Kentucky death index lists Fred D. McClain, age 78, died 21 Aug 1985 in Boyd Co., residence same.

Notes for Jessie Irene Bradley
The Kentucky birth index lists Irene Bradley, born 14 July 1914 in Morgan Co., mother’s maiden name Gertrude Williams (certificate Vol. 96, #48000.)
The SSDI lists Jessie I. McClain, born 19 July 1914, died 14 Oct 1996, last residence Grayson, Carter Co., Ky.
The Kentucky death index lists Jessie I. McClain, age 82, died 14 Oct 1996 in Greenup Co., residence Grayson, Carter Co.
There is a mismatch between the 14 July date in the birth index, and the 19 July date in the Social Security death index. I am using the date from the SSDI because there are huge numbers of transcription errors in the Kentucky birth index; the original certificates from that period were handwritten and the indexing was very sloppy.
The 1920 census shows a daughter Jesse age 5, while the 1930 census shows a daughter Irene age 15.
The Kentucky birth index also records Jesse Brady, born 13 June 1915 in Morgan Co., mother’s maiden name Trudie Williams (certificate Vol. 67, #33047.) I wish I could see that certificate to see who the father was. I cannot find any other match in the censuses for a female Jess-- Br-- born 1913-1918 in Morgan or surrounding counties. Nor can I find any Brady family in Morgan Co. So it looks very much like this is either a duplicate record of Jessie Irene Bradley’s birth, or another daughter born to Millard and Gertrude who died young. But both certificates were filed in the year of birth; neither is a delayed correction. And I cannot find any matching death record. The most likely scenario is that Millard and Gertrude had a daughter they named Irene born in July 1914, then 11 months later they had a daughter they named Jessie born prematurely in June 1915, who died at birth or shortly thereafter, but the death was not registered. And then they switched the name Jessie to their first daughter.
