Her death certificate records Ara Padgett, age 63, born 19 Jan 1870 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 17 April 1933 in Farmers, Rowan Co., Ky, married, wife of Harrison Padgett, father Harm Purvis, mother’s maiden name Seary Lee, cause of death mitral heart leasion, informant Tom Purvis, Bluestone, burial in Silome.

I do not know if Ara’s children were born out-of-wedlock, or if she was married to a husband also named Purvis. The 1910 census lists her as widowed, but her children were surnamed Purvis.

If he is not really a Purvis, then his name may be Daugherty. (See the notes for Myrtle’s daughter Gracie.)

In 1900 Myrtle and Lutitia are listed with Ara’s parents, as grandchildren. I cannot find Ara herself in 1900.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 28 April, lists on p. 9A, as family #152/162, on Mill Str. in Morehead:
Purvis, Ira, (female), 39, widowed, mother of 4 children, 4 living; Myrtie, dau, 17; Frank, son, 11; Tommie, son, 3; Lutitia, dau, 14. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The age for Frank may be too high; I cannot find him in the 1900 census. But then, I cannot find Ara in 1900 either, so perhaps mother and son were together somewhere else, and were either missed by the census, badly misindexed, or listed under a different surname. (I’ve searched for Frank* or Ara with no surname, and for Pur* and Per* with no given name, and examined them all.)
