A brief death notice in the Lexington Herald-Leader of Wed, July 1, 1987 reported “MOREHEAD -- Arthur P. Alfrey, 81, of Verdunville, W.Va., formerly of Rowan County, a retired coal miner, husband of Lorraine Carpenter Alfrey, died of a stroke Monday at Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Services 3 p.m. Thursday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation after 4 p.m. today.”
