In 1900 Joseph is living with his brother Enoch, along with his son Asa from his marriage to Ellen Highley. He is recorded as married 2 years (which would be his marriage to Mary E. Gee), but no wife is living with him.

Since the marriage to Joseph Sexton was her second, Gee is probably not her maiden name.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 3, p. 60, records the marriage on 4 June 1898 of Joseph H. Sexton, age 48, residence Ringos Mill, farmer, born in Morgan Co., father born in Indiana, mother born in Bath Co., Ky, to Mary E. Gee, age 29, second marriage, born in Carter Co., at E. C. Sexton’s by Enoch C. Sexton, witnesses J. M. Johnson and Albert N. Fisher.
