In 1900 Joseph is living with his brother Enoch, along with his son Asa from his marriage to Ellen Highley. He is recorded as married 2 years (which would be his marriage to Mary E. Gee), but no wife is living with him.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 31 Oct 1875 of J. H. Sexton and Mary E. Bailey, at Mary E. Bailey’s by Obediah Sexton, witnesses George Sexton and Caleb Sexton.

Mary and Joseph were apparently divorced after a brief marriage, because in the 1880 census Mary is going by Bailey again, with no children from this marriage.
