Notes for Charles P. & Mary Elizabeth (Family)
Magoffin Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 22 June 1866 of Charles P. Bailey and M. E. Prater.
The U.S. Civil War Pension index file for Charles P. Bailey, service in the 14th Kentucky Infantry, lists an application (#327 793) dated 15 June 1885 for Mary E. Sexton, and an application (#327 794) dated 19 Feb 1889 filed from Missouri for Mary E. Swearingin. The index card lists the application from Mary E. Swearington as a widow’s application, and the application from Mary E. Sexton as a minor dependent. The index card format only has one line for the widow, though, so it is possible that these are both widow’s applications. Or Mary E. Sexton may be a daughter of Mary E. Prater and Charles Sexton who was dependent upon her mother in 1885. Unfortunately, the actual applications are not yet digitized, just the index.
