So far as I can tell there is no relationship between this William Cox and my Cox/Cock ancestors, but since I do have Cox relatives in Morgan Co., I want to keep track of William and his Cox descendants who are in the Morgan/Rowan Co. area to help me keep straight which Cox families in Kentucky are my relatives and which aren’t.

His death certificate records William Riley Cox, age 86 years 4 months 18 days, born 25 Aug 1854 in Scott Co., Virginia, died 13 Jan 1941 in Jephtha, Morgan Co., Ky, married, husband of Martha Cox, age 65, occupation farmer, father William Cox, mother’s maiden name Mandy Brickey, both born in Scott Co., Va, cause of death nephritis and age neuresthena, informant W. M. Cox, Dingus, Ky, burial in Cox Cemetery.

Her death certificate records Amanda Jane Cox, age 74 years 10 months 3 days, born 6 March 1853 in Rowan Co., Ky (although Rowan Co. was not really founded until 1856), died 9 Jan 1928 in Jeptha, Morgan Co., Ky, married, wife of W. R. Cox, father Hiarm Roberts, born in Ky, mother’s maiden name Jane Flanery, born in Virginia, cause of death consumption, informant W. R. Cox, Jeptha, Ky, burial in Cox Cemetery.

1880 census of Morgan Co., Kentucky, Elk Fork precinct, enumerated 11 June, lists on p. 18 as family #125/126:
Cox, William R., 25, farmer, b. Va Va Va; Amanda J., 26, wife, b. Ky Va Va; William M., 3, son; Hiram L., 1, son. Both sons born Ky Va Ky.
