So far as I can tell there is no relationship between this William Cox and my Cox/Cock ancestors, but since I do have Cox relatives in Morgan Co., I want to keep track of William and his Cox descendants who are in the Morgan/Rowan Co. area to help me keep straight which Cox families in Kentucky are my relatives and which aren’t.

Also, at least two of his children married children of John F. Fyffe and Martha Slusher, sister of my GG Grandmother Mahala Slusher.

In the 1900 census William was listed as age 70, born June 1829, widowed, with his son David Martin Cox.

1860 census of Scott Co., Virginia, Estillville P.O., enumerated 3 Sep, lists on p. 192 as family #1245:
William H. Cox, 30, farmer; Mandy M., 25; Mary E., 7; William R., 5; Charles B., 3; David M., 1. All born in Virginia.

The son Charles B. age 3 is inconsistent with the daughter Sarah D. age 13 in the next census:

1880 census of Morgan Co., Kentucky, Elk Fork precinct, enumerated 11 June, lists on p. 18 as family #124/125:
Cox, William H., 50, farmer; Amanda M., 45, wife; James H., 17, son; Robt F., 14, son; John A., 12, son; Martha B., 10, dau; Victoria A., 6, dau; Bradley, Paton A., 22, son-in-law, b. Va Va N.C.; Eliza J., 19, dau. Martha and Victoria born Ky Va Va, all others except Patton born Va Va Va.

The next household is their son William R. Cox, and the preceding household contains their widowed son David M. Cox, living with his late wife’s sister Mary and her husband William Kelly.
