Notes for Richard F. Wells
The pedigree chart that I got his name from (as the father of Frances Wells who married James Brown) says that he was born in Menifee County, but Menifee County wasn’t even formed until 1869. In 1822 the Wells family was in Floyd Co., so that’s what I’ve put. (They were in Morgan Co. in 1823, but they didn’t move there - Richard’s grandfather Edmund B. Wells born 1777 was one of the founders of the county.)
His death certificate states Richard Wells, age 90 years 20 days, born 30 Nov 1822 in Morgan Co., died 20 Dec 1912 in Martinsburg, Elliott Co., Ky, father Benjamin Wells, maiden name of mother unknown, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage, informant Walter Wells, Bascom, Ky.
Notes for Richard F. & Ellen H. (Family)
Elliott Co., Ky marriage report to the state auditor for 1875 lists the marriage of Richard F. Wells, 53, 3rd marriage, born in Morgan Co. and both parents born in Morgan Co., to Ellen Adkins, 44, 2nd marriage, born in Morgan Co., parents birthplace unknown.
The date field says only 1875; the line above is August 8, and the one below is June 15. (The marriages are not recorded in either date order or alphabetical order; they are compiled by appending the reports of multiple ministers and justices of the peace all submitted at the beginning of the following year.) It is somewhat anomalous that the marriage was recorded in 1875 when their son Harrison was born in 1871.
