1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists as family #954:
Benjamin F. Wells, 48; Elizabeth, 48; Jane, 22; Melvin, 21; Edmund, 17; Thomas, 15; Daniel, 11; Sarah, 9; Melicent, 19. All born in Ky.
The fact that Millicent age 19 is listed after the others would ordinarily indicate that she is not Benjamin’s daughter, but she appears in the regular age order in 1860. (Neither the 1850 nor the 1860 censuses show relationships.)
1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, division 2, enumerated 22 July, lists on p. 76 as family #500:
Benjamin Wells, 58, farmer; Elizabeth, 58; Jane, 33; Melissant, 29; Melvin Wells, 31, farmer; Thomas, 25. All born in Kentucky.
1870 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty precinct, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 2 as family #10:
Wells, Benj’n F., 68, farmer; Elizabeth, 68; Jane, 43; Melvin, 41, works on farm. Ratliff, Harvey, 25, farm laborer. All born in Kentucky.
The next household is headed by their son Edmund.
In the 1880 census Benjamin age 78 is living with his son Oliver Perry Wells in Menifee Co., as is Jane, age 52, single.
