Notes for Andrew C. Alderman
According to family, he was known as “Bill Alderman”, which seems somewhat unusual given that his middle initial was C, but hey, my mother’s brother Warren Hale Grisso was known all his life as Pete.
His death certificate records Andrew C. Alderman, age 50, born 28 May 1901 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 18 April 1952 in Ashland, Boyd Co., Ky, usual residence Rural Rt #1, Morehead, Ky, occupation farmer, father Andrew J. Alderman, mother’s maiden name Ada Huff, cause of death uremia due to duodenal obstruction from old ruptured ulcer with involvement of pancreas and liver, burial in family cemetery, Rowan Co., informant Mrs. Florance Royce, sister.
The marital status field has a big X in it, which crosses the labels for both widowed and never married, and does not cross married or divorced. I have no idea what that means.
The reported birthdate conflicts with that of his brother Thomas, whose birthdate was given as Feb 1901. Since the 1910 census, taken in April, gives Thomas’s age as 9, and Andrew’s as 7, Andrew was probably really born in 1902 or even 1903. (If born in 1902, he would be 7 going on 8, and if born in 1903, he would be 6 going on 7.)

She was listed in her father’s obituary in 1958 as Mrs. Carrie Royse, Urbana, Ohio.
The Kentucky death index lists Carrie Royse, age 79, died 8 Jan 1985 in Rowan Co.
Her gravestone is inscribed Carrie Hall Alderman, Nov 2, 1905 - Jan 8, 1985. The Rowan County Historical Society’s survey has the note that she is the wife of Bill Alderman, whose stone is inscribed 1903 - 1952. I don’t know if this is an error, or if Andrew C. Alderman was for some reason sometimes known as Bill.
