1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precint, enumerated 4 June, lists on p. 6 as family #57/60:
McCane, James, 66, farmer, b. Ky S.C. Ky; Elizabeth, 54, wife; Partheny, 38, dau; Sarah E., 27, dau; Jane, 24, dau; Lucretia, 19, dau; Thomas, 20, son; Mary C., 16, dau; Ruben Y., 10, son. All except James born Ky Ky Ky.

I do not whether Nancy had died and Elizabeth is a second wife, or if it is just Nancy’s middle name.

In 1900 James is listed with his youngest son Reuben as James McClain, father, 86, b. Apr 1814, Ky S.C. --, widowed. Parthenia is also in the household with her husband William Bailey, married 5 years.
