The second records William Thomas Kegley, age 41 years 8 months 4 days, born 10 June 1899 in Missouri, died 14 Feb 1941 in rural Elliott Co., usual residence Laurel, Elliott Co., Ky, married, wife’s age 26 (name field blank), occupation common labor, father George Kegley born in Rowan Co., Ky, mother’s maiden name Jennie Mathew, birthplace unknown, cause of death “this man walked over a cliff 60 ft high and killed him self, accident”, informant Lucy Kegley, Sideway, Ky, burial in McDaniel Cemetery, Sideway, Ky.
(Since Caney Creek is in Rowan Co and Laurel Creek is in Elliott Co, it is likely that he died in Rowan Co but lived in Elliott.)
All the censuses record his birthplace as Kentucky, not Missouri, including the 1900 census where he is listed as age 10 months in Laurel Co., Ky. It is probable that the informant was confusing his father’s birthplace with his mother’s father’s birthplace.
