His death certificate records Dort N. Sargent, age 79 years 3 months 17 days, born 15 June 1872 in Ky, died 2 Oct 1952 in Blaze, Morgan Co., Ky, married, occupation farmer, father John Sargent, mother’s maiden name Nancy Hart, cause of death valvular heart disease complicated by asthma, informant Mrs. Lenard Lewis, burial in family cemetery, Blaze, Ky.

This is the only record I’ve seen that gives him a middle initial N. Other records suggest that his given names were either Dorton Ellsworth or Ellsworth Dorton. Perhaps Mrs. Lewis misinterpreted “Dorton” as “Dort N.”

Since John Sargent died in 1862, he could not really be Dort’s father.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage of Dorton Sergent and Rittie F. Barnett on 11 Nov 1897.

1910 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Panthers Branck precinct, enumerated 19 April, lists on pp. 3A-3B as family #42/43:
Sergent, Dort, 36, farmer; Rittie, wife, 29, first marriage for both, married 13 years, mother of 7 children, 6 living; Outie, son, 11; Calvie, dau, 9; Elzie P., son, 6; Malary, dau, 5; Opal, dau, 2; Cordelia, dau, 7/12; Nancy, mother, 74, widowed. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although it should be Ky Ky Va for Dort and Va Va Va for Nancy.
