Apr 1855 Illinois England England, and his wife Sue age 36, b. Apr 1864 California Canada Illinois. (I mention the birthplaces of his employers only to show that they are no relation.) Also in the same househild is fellow Elliott Co. native Riley M. Bowling, son of James L. Bowling and Susannah Evans. Charles and Riley would later both marry Conn girls.

Her death certificate records Martha Steagall, age 40 years 7 months, born 4 Feb 1875 in Kentucky, died 11 Sep 1915 in Olive Hill, Carter Co., Ky, divorced, father Gabe Steagall, mother’s maiden name Flora Barker, both born in Va, cause of death cardiac dropsy, informant John Steagall, Olive Hill.
Be careful not to confuse her with her first cousin, Martha Jane Steagall daughter of John Steagall and Mary Roberts, who was just three months older.
