His gravestone is inscribed Nicholas Fulks, Jan 15, 1837 - Dec 14, 1927.

Since he was listed in the 1850 census as age 15, with a younger brother George age 12, it is likely that he was really born one or two years earlier.

Notes for Catherine “Kate” Gross
Her obituary reported

“Aunt Kate” Fulks, 94, was killed last Friday night when she was struck by an automobile on Ky Highway 15, three miles east of Campton in Wolfe County.

Mrs. Fulks was returning home from a church meeting at Ezell, according to the report of the accident, when a car driven by Mrs. Mary LeMaster of Whitesburg struck her and knocked her into a ditch.

Wolfe County Coroner, B. F. Porter, stated that there was “no doubt Aunt Kate was killed instantly”. The LeMaster vehicle struck the victim with a right headlight, the coroner said. It was very foggy at the time, Porter said, and the accident was termed unavoidable on the part of the driver of the car and no charges were placed against her.

Mrs. Fulks, who lived with her step-grandson, Darlie Fulks, had gotten out of a car driven by Courtney Centers, and was escorted across the road by Centers. After returning to the car, Centers said, he was planning to pull out when he heard the crash. Mrs. Fulks had apparentl started back accross the road to the Centers car after she had been left in her driveway.

Aunt Kate, as she was known by many, is well known in and around Bath County, having spent much of her time in this section with relatives.

In addition to the step-grandson with whom she made her home, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dessie Williams, Salt Lick and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Campton Church of God by the Rev. Walter Strong. Burial was in the old Campton Cemetery.”

Her gravestone says simply Kate Fulks, 1864 - 1958.

The Kentucky death index records Kate F. Noel, age 94, died 3 Oct 1958 in Wolfe Co., residence same.

In 1870 she is listed in Nicholas Co., Ky as Kate Groce, age 6, with the family of Martin Scott age 25 and Francis Scott age 65, her uncle and maternal grandmother (based on the 1850 and 1860 censuses, which I am not transcribing.)
