His death certificate records Henry Lewis Purvis, age 83 years 5 months 26 days, born 19 July 1869 in Kentucky, died 15 Jan 1953 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, widowed, farmer, father Asa Purvis, mother’s maiden name Mary Otis, cause of death pneumonia and congestive failure, informant Mrs. Roy Alford, burial in Hedrick Cemetery.

The age is wrong, since he does not appear at all in the 1870 census, and he is recorded in the 1880 census as age 9, and in the 1900 census as age 29 born April 1871.

Be careful not to confuse him with his nephew Henry Lawrence Purvis, who was a decade younger.
