Eli’s many marriages are a bit hard to untangle. The 1910 census listed his marriage to Sarah Alice Pugh as his fourth, but I can only find three in the Morgan Co. marriage records.

His death certificate records Eli Ferguson, age 77 years 3 months 1 day, born 12 Dec 1868 in Morgan Co., Ky, died 13 Mar 1946 in Lykins, Magoffin Co., Ky, married, husband of Dora Ferguson, cause of death probably arteriosclerosis and heart failure, parents unknown, informant Mrs. Henry Keeton, Edna, Ky.

Morgan Co., Ky birth records list Sarah A. Pugh, born 1 Dec 1878, father Wm Pugh, mother’s maiden name Martha Nickell.

Her death certificate records Sarah Alice Ferguson, age 63 years 0 months 6 days, born 1 Jan 1878 in Kentucky, died 7 Jan 1941 in Index, Morgan Co., Ky, married, wife of Eli Ferguson, age 72, father William Pugh, mother’s maiden name Martha Nickell, both born in Kentucky, cause of death carcinoma of stomach, informant Bulah Elam, Index, Ky, burial in White Oak, Ky.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 22 Nov 1908 of Eli Ferguson and Alice Ferguson.

1910 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty precinct, enumerated 3 May, lists on p. 12B as family #209/226:
Ferguson, Eli, 41, 4th marriage, laborer; Sarah A., wife, 31, 2nd marriage, married 1 year, mother of 3 children, 3 living; Ida M., dau, 12; Daniel B., son, 8; Martha, dau, 5; Mary N., dau, 11/12; Emily J., sister, 64, widowed. All born Ky Ky Ky.

It is a bit tricky figuring out who the parents of these children are, since there were so many prior marriages for Eli, and Sarah’s first husband was also a Ferguson.

Ida is definitely from Eli’s first marriage to Emma Lumpkin, from her death certificate.

Daniel’s birthdate would fit for him to be either born to Eli and Emma, or to Isaac and Sarah. The “3 living children” for Sarah, if accurate, would mean that all three of the younger children are hers.

The most problematic one is Martha. Morgan Co. birth records list a Martha B. Ferguson born Mar 1906 to I. E. Ferguson and Lucy A. Gullet. Sarah’s first husband was Isaac E. Ferguson, which fits for the initials, but I cannot find any marriage record between a Lucy Gullet and any Ferguson.

Ferguson, Eli, 57 (or 51), farmer; Allice, wife, 41; Boone, son, 18; Bulah, dau, 14; Nolah, dau, 10; Sarah, dau, 9; Eliza, dau, 3. All born Ky Ky Ky.
