In 1900 he is recorded in Menifee Co., district 3, as Jack Reed, 42, b. May 1858, widowed, teamster, boarding with the family of John and Terry Skims. (There are six other single or divorced male boarders in the household, but no other Reeds.)

I do not know if Jack Reed really married Dora Brooks, but probably not. Their daughter Catherine was raised by Jack’s son Joe and Dora’s sister Mattie.
