According to family trees at Ancestry.com, Jack Reed was a traveling music teacher.

His death certificate records Andrew Jackson Reed, age 65, born 23 May 1859 in Ky, died 22 Mar 1924 in McRoberts, Letcher Co., Ky, married, parents unknown, occupation timberman, cause of death mitral regurgitation with broken compensation and nephritis, informant Della Reed, McRoberts, Ky, burial in McRobert, Ky.

In 1900 he is recorded in Menifee Co., district 3, as Jack Reed, 42, b. May 1858, widowed, teamster, boarding with the family of John and Terry Skims. (There are six other single or divorced male boarders in the household, but no other Reeds.)

Her first name is also spelled Janella.

My only connection to this family is that their daughter Almeda married my third cousin twice removed, Floyd Hall.

Jack and Genella do not appear together in any census, since they married after 1880 and she died before 1900. Three of their children are listed in 1900 in Menifee Co. with her parents (see their notes for details) as:

Reed, Joseph, grandson, 13, b. Apr 1887; Leora, grandda, 10, b. July 1889; Almeda, granddau, 2, b. June 1898. All born Ky Ky Ky.

(I do not know where their daughter Bessie was living. She should be about 6.)
