His death certificate records Thomas Stegall, age 67 years 1 day, born 20 July 1864 in Kentucky, died 27 July 1931 in Laurel precinct, Elliott Co., Ky, widowed, husband of Mary Stegall, father Dock Stegall, mother’s maiden name Mary Kline, both born in Va, cause of death nephritis of kidneys, informant T. F. Stegall, Ordinary, Ky, burial in Stegall Cemetery.

Her gravestone says Mary, wife of Tom Stigall, Mar 13, 1876 - April 10, 1911. I cannot find her in the Kentucky death records, though.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Hoggtown, E.D. 156, enumerated 15 April, lists on p. 1A as family #10:
Steagall, Thomas, 45, farmer; Mary E., wife, 32, married 12 years, mother of 5 children, 5 living; Amus, son, 11; Susan, dau, 9; Martha, dau, 7; Henry, son, 5; Lula, dau, 2. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The next two households are headed by Joshua Steagall age 76 and Louis H. Steagall age 48.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 27 Jan, lists on p. 14B as family #268/271:
Stigall, Tom, 50, widowed, farmer; Amus, son, 20; Susan, dau, 16; Martha, dau, 14; Lula, dau, 12; Abby, dau, 6; Henry, son, 5 1/12; Dock, son, 3 2/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

I cannot find the younger three children in the Kentucky birth index, and Tom’s wife Mary died in 1911, according to her gravestone. So they may be adopted.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 4 April, lists on p. 1A as family #7:
Stigall, Tom, 63, widowed, age at first marriage 32, farmer; Susan, dau, 28, single; Abigill, dau, 20; Henry, son, 24; Dock, son, 17. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The ages for the children are very different from those implied by the 1920 census!
