There were apparently two birth certificates recorded for him.
The Kentucky birth index lists Coleman Ramey, born 13 Oct 1915 in Breathitt Co. (a misindexing of Rowan Co.
11), mother’s maiden name Vina Ramey. This is an original, in Vol. 109 for 1915, certificate #54195.
The Kentucky birth index also lists Bridget Ramey, born 13 Oct 1916 in Breathitt Co. (a misindexing of Rowan Co.
11), mother’s maiden name Vina Ramey. This is a delayed certificate, filed in 1941, Vol. 125, #62494.
In the 1920 census, taken in January, he appears as Bridges, son, age 3 9/12, which would be consistent with a birthdate in March 1916. In the 1930 census, taken in April, he is recorded as Bridgett, son, age 13, which would be consistent with a birthdate between April 1916 and March 1917.
Now, it is possible that these represent two different people, and that Coleman died before 1920, and Bridget’s birth was not recorded during the year it occurred. But there is no death certificate for Coleman, and having two sons born exactly a year apart would be unusual. So I think it is more likely that his actual birthdate was in 1915, and his parents changed their minds about what to name him, and by the time he needed a birth certificate to register for Social Security, they could no longer locate the original record due to having forgotten the right date.
The SSDI lists Bridget Ramey, born 13 Oct 1916, died 16 July 1997, last residence South Webster, Scioto Co., Ohio, SSN issued in West Virginia before 1951.
