Enlisted as a private in Company D, Illinois 2nd Calvary Regiment on 6 Jan 1862, residence New Madrid, Missouri, mustered in on 16 July 1863, mustered out on 12 Aug 1864.
He probably died between the date he was mustered out, and before 1870, when Julia was recorded with her parents. But it is possible that they separated instead. (The 1870 census does not record marital status.)
