His death certificate records Tim Walace, age 89 years 3 months 11 days, born 14 Jan 1827, died 24 Apr 1916 in Piercy precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, birthplace and all parent fields “don’t know”, cause of death unknown, informant Joseph Phillips, Morehead, Ky, burial in Gregory Cemetery.
His gravestone is inscribed “H. T. Wallace, 34th VA Infantry C.S.A.”, with his birthdate given as Jan 4, 1835.
Since he was recorded in the 1850 census as age 13, the 1860 census as age 23, and the 1870 census as age 32, his birth year is very likely to be 1837.
Many family trees on Ancestry.com mistakenly identify him with the Henry T. Wallace born in Ohio Co., Kentucky, son of Talbot Wallace and Sarah Ann Stevens. (This just happens because Ancestry tends to give “hints” based on name matches, and people accept them too trustingly.)
