Main, widow of Edward C. McDowell, father James Coldiron, mother’s maiden name Jane McCarty, both born in VA, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage due to hypertension, burial in Barnes Cemetery, Highland Co., Ohio.
The informant has confused the given name of Nervie’s stepfather James Pennington with that of her father Hiram Coldiron.

Morgan Co., Ky marriage reocrds list the marriage on 26 June 1897 of E. C. McDowell and Nervy Ison at Mary Ison’s by A. J. Hamilton, witnesses R. H. Ison and Doctor Ison.

1900 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 5, enumerated 9 June, lists on p. 11A as family #162/165:
McDowill, Edward, 37, b. Aug 1862, farming, married 16 years; Manervy, wife, 29, b. Jan (or Jun) 1881, married 14 years, mother of 6 children, 6 living; Emery, son, 15, b. May 1885; Addie, son, 13, b. Apr 1887; Annie, dau, 10, b. Apr 1889; Rissa A., dau, 2, b. May 1898; George W., son, 4/12, b. Feb 1900. Ison, Ellie, 11, ward, b. Jan (or June) 1889; Willie, ward, 9, b. May 1891; Estle (male), ward, 7, b. Feb 1893; Nianzie (male), ward, 5, b. Mar 1895. All born Ky Ky Ky.
Note that the age and birthdate for Manervy are inconsistent. Ancestry has indexed the date as June 1861, but the decades digit doesn’t look like the other 6’s on the page. It could possibly be a 5, but that would be inconsistent with her reported age of 29 as well. They have each apparently interpreted the number of years married as the total number of years across all marriages, since they had only been married 2 years and 11 months to each other.
The Ison children were originally entered by the census taker with the relationship as “gardean” (or “gurdean”), then corrected in pencil to ward. It should be stepdaughter and stepsons.

Lee (short for Leander) Pennington is Nervie’s half-brother.
