In 1880 she is recorded as Clarrissa Raimey, 63, mother, widowed, b. Ky Ky Ky, with her daughter Rebecca.

Harlan Co., Ky marriage book A, p. 177, records the marriage on 10 Mar 1836 of John McCarthy and Martha Saylor, by J. Jones, J.P.
Death records for their children spell their mother’s maiden name as Salyer.
Since there are no records that combine the given names Clarissa and Martha/Patsy, not even in the form of a matching initial (Martha C or Clarissa M), John may have married twice, first to Martha Saylor or Salyer, who was the mother of all his children, and second to a Clarissa Salyer sometime between 1850 and 1860. But at least tentatively I will assume that Martha/Patsy Saylor and Clarissa Salyer are the same person.

1860 census of Johnson Co., Ky, Paintsville precinct, enumerated 21 Aug, lists on p. 132 as family #840/839:
John McCarty, 41, farmer, b. Va; Clarissa, 41, b. Ky; David, 17, b. Ky; Manerva, 14, b. Ky.
The following household is headed by their son Nelson, listed as age 21, and the one after that by Hiram L. Coldiron and his wife Rebecca McCarty, listed as age 19.
The 1860 Mortality Schedule also lists John McCarty, age 44, born in Virginia, died Jan 1860 of rheumatism. It is unclear whether this is the same John McCarty listed as Clarissa’s husband; if so, he was misentered in at least one of the records.
