Census Notes for Job & Emily Jane (Family)
1840 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, records:
Job Ingram, 1 male 20-29, 1 female 20-29; 1 female under 5.
1850 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, district 2, enumerated 5 Aug, lists on p. 27 as family #170:
Job Ingraham, 33, farmer; Emily, 33; Mary J., 11; Martha A., 10; Puras (female), 5; Rachal, 4; William J., 2. All born in Kentucky.
The child listed as Puras age 5 should be a son Purnell.
1860 census of Powell Co., Ky, Stanton P.O., enumerated 12 June, lists on pp. 16-17 as family #103:
Jobe Ingram, 41, farmer; Emily, 30; Martha, 19; Permela S. (female), 16; Rachel, 14; Jas, 12; Jno T., 9; Juley A., 7; Garrett, 3; Thomson C., 1/12. All born in Kentucky.
Again, Pernell has been incorrectly reported as female. Probably the census taker just took down names while visiting, and filled out the gender column later, guessing the sex from the name.
1870 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Frenchburg precinct, enumerated 25 June, lists on p. 12 as family #93/89:
Ingram, Job, 51, farmer; Emily, 50; John, 19; Garrett, 13; Robert, 10; James, 11; Wesley, 6. All born in Kentucky.
Job’s son Purn is two households above at #91/87. It is odd that Job and Emily apparently had two sons named James. The one recorded here as age 11 was probably really born after 1860. And Robert may be the son recorded as Thompson C. age 1 month in 1860.
1880 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Frenchburg precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 3 as family #20/23:
Ingram, Job, 69, b. Ky Tenn Maryland, farmer; Emily J., wife, 64, b. Ky Ky Ky; Garrett, 22, son; James B., 19, son; Wesley N., 16, son; James T., 17, grandson; Codie E., 15, grandson. All children born Ky Ky Ky. Ballard, John, 86, father-in-law, widowed, b. Ky S.C. unknown, “thigh broke” in disabilities column.
The grandsons James T. and Codie are sons of Job and Emily’s daughter Martha.
