Notes for Martha Emmaline Cox
Morgan Co., Ky birth records list Martha M. Cock, born 3 Apr 1878, father Allen Cock, mother’s maiden name Lucinda F. Cottle.
Her death certificate records Mrs. Martha Emmaline Mays, age 57 years 9 months 1 day, born 2 Jan 1878 in Zag, Ky, died 2 Jan 1936 in Menifee Co., Ky, residence Artville, length of residence 2 years, father Allen Cox, mother’s maiden name Caudell, both born in “Zag ?” (question marks on cert), cause of death pulmonary tuberculosis, informant daughter Mrs. Evernon Walls, Wellington, burial in Back Cemetery.
Note that the reported age at death is inconsistent with the reported birthdate. Apparently the month and day of death were accidentally entered in the birth date field. The reported age at death would imply a birthdate of 1 Apr 1878, which is only 2 days off from the birth record. (There is also scratched out data recording her age as 61 years 2 months and the birthdate as 11 Oct 1874.)

Census
1910 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Toms Branch precinct, enumerated 30 April, lists on p. 6A as family #104/105:
Mays, Robert L., 33, 2nd marriage, married 8 years, farmer; Martha, wife, 32, first marriage, married 8 years, mother of 3 children, 3 living; Anna B., dau, 7; Cora L., dau, 5; Mary E., dau, 3; Cox, Lula, stepdau, 14. All born Ky Ky Ky.
Lula is very unlikely to be Martha’s daughter, because she was recorded in the 1900 census in the household of Reuben Cox, father of Robert’s first wife Cynthia, recorded as Reuben’s granddaughter. Robert was also living in the same household. Also Martha reports herself here as the mother of only three children, who would be Anna, Cora and Mary. For Lula to be a stepdaughter of Robert rather than a daughter, and be a granddaughter of Reuben’s, she would have to be Cynthia’s daughter by someone else.
1920 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Toms Branch precinct, enumerated 6 Jan, lists on p. 8A as family #148:
Mays, Robert L., 44, farmer; Martha, wife, 42; Anna B., dau, 17; Cora J., dau, 15; Mary E., dau, 13; James R., son, 9; Audra L, dau, 6; Willard O., son, 5; Dillard D., son, 5. All born Ky Ky Ky.
