Mattie’s parents were Willis Martin (4 Feb 1858-6 July 1945) and Mahala “Hallie” Gibson (14 Oct 1864-3 July 1943) of Montgomery and Powell counties. She was recorded with them in the 1900 census of Powell Co., Ky as Mattie L. Martin, age 10, born Feb 1890.
