Identification of the Amos who married Elizabeth Lacy with the Davis Pelfrey, son of John Pelfrey and Catherine Ferguson, who was recorded as age 14 in the 1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky is tentative, based primarily on the facts that there is no other fit in the 1850 census even considering a name change and a broad range of neighboring counties who is not already accounted for by marriage to a different spouse, and that in the 1870 census, the Thomas W. Pelfrey who was the youngest son of John and Catherine was living with Amos and Lizzie.

(There was an Alexander Pelfrey family in Johnson Co. that the name Amos seems to run in, but all of their sons born in 1836 to 1842 are accounted for in later censuses with other wives.)

Morgan Co., Ky marriage report for 1859 lists the marriage on 13 Jan 1859 of Amos Pelfrey, age 20, and Elisabeth Lacey, age 17, both born in and residents of Morgan Co. The license, issued on 7 Jan 1859 with no minister’s return, spells their names as Amos Pelphrey and Mary E. Lacy.

1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 1, West Liberty P.O., enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 21 as family #127/125:
Amos Pelfry, 21, farmer; Elizabeth, 18; Thomas W., 2/12. All born in Kentucky.

There are no other Pelfrey families on the page, nor any Lacy families. The preceding three households are all Brown families; the next household is headed by Henry S. Easterling age 35.
