1930 census of Bath Co., Ky, Bethel precinct, enumerated 12 April, lists on p. 1B as family #96/100:
Wills, Earnest, 35, age at first marriage 21; Anna, wife, 33, age at first marriage 19; Nancy C., dau, 13; George, son, 11. All born Ky Ky Ky.
The name is definitely spelled Wills, with a clear dot on the i. The preceding household is headed by Earnest’s parents, and the following one is headed by his brother Earl, and both of those are spelled as Wells. Apparently the census taker was going by verbal reports without asking for spelling, and someone in this household pronounced Wells as Wills and Hannah as Anna.
1940 census of Bath Co., Ky, Bethel precinct, enumerated 24 April, lists on p. 15B as family #280, on Little Flat Rd:
Wells, Earnest, 46, farmer; Hannah, wife, 44; George, son, 22, farmer; Christine, dau-in-law, 20. All born in Kentucky, living in rural Bath Co., Ky in 1935.
(The marital status for George and Christine is recorded as single, which is in conflict with Christine being a daughter-in-law.)
