His gravestone next to Vina’s is inscribed with the dates Mar. 14, 1848 - Jan. 27, 1893, but he was recorded as age 18 in the 1860 census. (I cannot find his family in the 1850 census; they may have been skipped.)

Nearly all of his children’s census and death records report that their father was born in Virginia, but his own 1860 census record says that he was born in Kentucky, and his father was recorded in Kentucky in 1830, 1840, and 1860. It is possible that his parents were in Virginia in 1842 and perhaps 1850, but more likely that he told his children he was born in Virginia when he really wasn’t.

Her death certificate records Melvina Sexton, age 86 years 2 months 27 days, born 26 June 1846 in Ky, died 24 Sep 1932 in Menifee Co., Ky, widow of W. R. Sexton, father J. W. Moore, mother’s maiden name Lucinda Evans, both born in Ky, cause of death nephritis due to myocarditis, informant R. B. Sexton, burial in family graveyard.

I cannot find this family in the 1870 census.

1880 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Frenchburg precinct, enumerated 5 June, lists on p. 16 as family #128/143:
Sexton, William, 28, farmer, b. Va Va Va; Melvina, 29, wife, b. Ky Ky Ky; Greenbery, 13, son; James, 11, son; Zack, 6, son; Bob, 4, son. All sons born Ky Va Ky.

The age for William is off by 10; he should be recorded as 38.

1900 census of Menifee Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 12A as family #210:
Sexton, Melvina, 53, b. June 1846, farmer, widowed, married 33 years, mother of 9 children, 8 living; Zack, son, 26, b. Mar 1874; Robert, son, 23, b. Mar 1877; Tina, dau, 21, b. Jan 1879; Alice, dau, 19, b. Mar 1881; Nora, dau, 15, b. Aug 1884; Johney, son, 13, b. Apr 1887. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Many of the ages and birthdates recorded here are inconsistent with the 1880 census and/or death records by one or two years. In particular, Tina is not recorded in the 1880 census.
