Her obituary in the Paintsville Herald of Wednesday, March 14, 1956 reported:
“Stella Ison, 87, Succumbs Friday in Local Hospital - Services at Moon For Aged Resident - Mrs. Stella Sherman Ison, 87, aged resident of Moon, KY, died in a local hospital Friday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m., following an illness of fourteen days.
The daughter of the late Nathe and Fannie Price Sherman, she was born at Relief, KY, June 20, 1868. She had been a resident of Moon for the past sixty years and was member of the Regular Baptist Church.
Her husband, D. M. Ison preceded her in death March 12, 1933.
She is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Grace Skaggs, Moon, Mrs. Gladys Burton, Blaine, Mrs. Hazel Ferguson, Staffordsville; Mrs. Evelyn Fyffe, Keaton, Mrs. Fannie Mae Patton, New Boston, OH; Mrs. Lou Ethel Brown, Cleveland, OH. Surviving also are two brothers, John and Paris Sherman both of Portsmouth, OH, nineteen grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 Sunday at the New Salem Church at Moon by Add Ferguson and Jesse Smith. Burial was in the family cemetery at Moon under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.”
