“Melvin E. Cosner, 76, of Cabins, died Monday, January 20, 1992, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born January 7, 1916, in Mt. Storm, he was the son of the late Martin and Betty (Moreland) Cosner.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora (Borror) Cosner, September 15, 1966; and one brother, Luther Cosner.
Mr. Cosner was a member of the Jordan Run Baptist Church, Maysville. He was a retired custodian for Petersburg Elementary School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 78, Petersburg.
Surviving are his second wife, Maxine (Skaggs) Bennett Cosner; one son, Merle Cosner, Timberville, VA; three daughters, Phyllis Amos, Petersburg, Carol Rohrbaugh, Mt. Storm, and Jeanie Weimer, Baker; four stepsons, Michael Bennett, Portsmouth, Ohio, Franklin Bennett, David Bennett and Jimmy Bennett, all of Maysville; four stepdaughters, Rose Mary Bennett, Eugene, Ore., Dinah Estep, Orange Beach, Fla., Judy Broyes, Gerrardstown, and Nola Lawrence, Petersburg; one sister, Dorothy Kesner, Keyser; one brother, Alfred Cosner, Mt. Storm; seven grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Paul Donaldson and the Rev. Stephen Landis officiating. Interment was in the Riggleman Cemetery, Cabins. Military graveside services were accorded by the VFW Post 7454 and American Legion Post 78, Petersburg.”

“Maxine was born in New Boston, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dewey E. Skaggs and Rose Anna (Pack) Skaggs. She was a member of Cabins Assembly of God Church. She was a former resident of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. She passed away at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, WV.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Finley Lee in 1943, Robert Lee Bennett in 1966 and Melvin E. Cosner in 1992.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Lee Bennett of Wheelersburg, OH, Franklin Eugene Bennett, David H. Bennett and Jimmy Gary Bennett, all of Maysville; four daughters, Rose Mary Bennett of Wilsonville, OR, Judy Ann Shultz of Hedgesville, Dinah Sue Bennett of Port Orange, FL, and Nola Maxine Lawrence of East Haddam, CT; a sister, Garnet Brickey of New Boston, OH; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant son and daughter, Nolan Ernest Lee and Anna Elizabeth Lee; one grandson, Bobby Dean Pratt; two brothers, Dewey E. Skaggs Jr. and Clyde H. Skaggs; two sisters, infant Louise Skaggs and Jean Payne; one grandson, Bobby Dean Pratt; and four step-children.”
