1900 census of Carter Co., Ky, district 5, enumerated 18 June, lists on p. 15A as family #196:
Bentley, Joseph, 28, b. May 1872, Ohio Ky Ky, farmer; Sellie, wife, 22, b. May 1878, Ky Ky Ky, married 9 years, mother of 5 children, 4 living; Evin, son, (6 changed to 5), b. Dec 1894; Nannie, 5, b. Feb 1895; Lee, son, 2, b. Oct 1897; Hatfield, son, 2/12, b. Mar 1900. All children born Ky Ky Ky.
Note that there is a conflict between the reported birth dates of Evin and Nannie - they are only three months apart. One of them must be incorrect. The fact that Evin’s age was originally entered as 6 would suggest that perhaps he was born in Dec 1893, but later records such as the 1910 and 1920 censuses and Evan’s draft card and death certificate are more consistent with Nannie being the one who was reported as older than her actual age in 1900.
