Fleming Co., Ky birth records list an unnamed male child, born alive on 10 May 1876, father Joseph Crawford, born in Fleming Co., mother’s maiden name R. A. Pearce, born in Carter Co.
He does not appear in the 1880 census, and the 1900 and 1910 censuses both record Robert Ann as the mother of 7 children, 6 living, so he was presumably the one child who died young.
No other records give the name of Robert Ann’s first husband as Joseph; this is probably a case of the county clerk misinterpreting “Jas” as “Jos” from the midwife or doctor’s notes. (These annual reports were compiled at the the beginning of each year for all the births, deaths and marriages that took place in the county during the previous year, by collating reports turned in by doctors, midwives and clergy.)
