His birth place in the censuses was variously reported as Kentucky (1870 and 1880), Tennessee (1860 and 1910), and Virginia (1900). His gravestone is inscribed with the dates 1832 - 1916, but censuses are more consistent with a birth date around 1834. (Age 25 in 1860, 36 in 1870, 42 in 1838, 66 in 1900, and 77 in 1910.) Without independent evidence of his parentage, I am reluctant to attempt identifying him in the 1850 census.

Her gravestone has the inscription Harriet E. Robertson 1844 - 1905. She was recorded as age 8 in the 1850 census, age 26 in 1870, age 38 in 1880, and age 56 in 1900. (I have not found her in the 1860 census.)
