Most branches of Hezekiah’s siblings and cousins used the spelling Nail, but he and his direct descendants went mostly by Nale.

His death certificate records Hesaki Nale, age 82 years 8 months 6 days, born 10 Mar 1835 in Indiana, died 26 Nov 1917 in Myatt (Wyatt?) township, Howell Co., Missouri, farmer, married, father George Nale, born in Indiana, mother’s maiden name and birth place not known, cause of death cerebral apoplexy, informant L. Nale, West Plains, Mo, burial in Meredith Cemetery.

1850 census of Washington Co., Indiana, Brown township, enumerated 16 Sep, lists as family #649/662:
George Nale, 46, b. Va; Sarah, 32, b. Ind; Hesekiah, 15; Hiram, 13; John, 11; Mary M., 9; Daniel, 6; Elya J., 11/12 (female). All children born in Indiana.

Only Elya is a child of Sarah [nee Kellum(s).] The other children are from George’s first marriage, to Priscilla Freelove McElyea.

The reported birth date is probably off by two or three years; she was recorded as age 11 in the 1850 census and age 22 in 1860.

Her death certificate124 records Elizabeth (Nail overwritten with Nale), age 82 years 1 month 19 days, born 16 Mar 1836 in Kentucky, died 5 May 1918 in Howell township, Howell Co., Missouri, widow, father Bafford Goodpaster, born in Ky, mother’s maiden name don’t know, cause of death senility, informant L. R. (Nail overwritten with Nale), burial in Meradith Cemetery.

The Indiana marriages index (compiled by the WPA in 1938-1940) records the marriage of Hezekiah Nail and Elizabeth Goodspastor on 1 Dec 1859 in Orange Co.

1860 census of Orange Co., Indiana, Paoli township, enumerated 4 July, lists on p. 80 as family #621:
Hezekiah Nail, 25, farmer, b. Ind; Elizabeth, 22, b. Ky. Hiram Nail, 24, laborer, b. Ind.

The next household is headed by Elizabeth’s brother Abraham, who is married to Sarah Ellen Nail.
