Her obituary in the Blandinsville [Illinois] Star-Gazette of Thursday, June 18, 1964 reported:
“SISTER OF WILL BENNETT PASSES AWAY IN MISSOURI
Mrs. Nellie E. Jones, 66, a former Dallas City resident, died Saturday morning in Arbela, Mo., where she had lived the last 18 years.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Gerth and Baskett funeral home at Memphis, Mo., and Tuesday afternoon in the Fisher Funeral Home at Dallas City. Burial was in Harris Cemetery at Dallas City.
Mrs. Jones was born in Hancock county November 2, 1897, a daughter of Raymond and Lillian Meecher Bennett. She was married at Carthage December 20, 1916 to Otto Jones. They had lived in Dallas City a number of years before moving to Arbela. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Arbela.
Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Millard (Viola) Leebold of Dallas City and Mrs. Max (Selma) Slocum of Memphis, Mo.; a son, Wendell of Arbela; six brothers, Will Bennett of Blandinsville, Homer Bennett of California, Ira Bennett of Sylvana, Wash., Lorenzo Bennett of Burlington, Ia., Elmer Bennett of LaHarpe and George Bennett of Macomb; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Fenno of Charles City, Iowa, Mrs. Virgie Brunston of LaHarpe and Mrs. Cora Harding of Blandinsville and six grandchildren. A brother and a grandson preceded her in death.”
